Ashdown Forest Open Studios (AFOS) is the new, expanded incarnation of Crowborough Open Studios, which focused on artists and makers in Crowborough and nearby East Sussex villages. By centering the event at the Ashdown Forest Centre in Wych Cross and widening the geographic area, the rebranded Open Studios will welcome more creatives and provide a stronger focal point for the arts in Sussex.

According to the Official Map of Ashdown Forest, Ashdown Forest Open Studios will include any town or village that borders the forest. This area covers the town of Crowborough, the villages of Hartfield, Forest Row, Nutley, and Fairwarp, along with the many smaller surrounding hamlets.

Ashdown Forest Open Studios is primarily intended for artists and makers who live or work in the towns, villages, and hamlets that border the Ashdown Forest. However, if you are outside the official area, you may still be able to take part. We encourage you to contact the organisers directly, as exceptions or alternative participation options may be available—such as exhibiting at a shared venue or joining a curated group space.

The Ashdown Forest Open Studios will be open for three days and a Gala evening. 2026 The days are Friday 4th September 10am - 5pm Saturday 5th September 10am - 5pm Sunday 6th September 10am - 5pm Gala evening event will be on the evening of Friday 4th of September, 6.30 - 9.30pm. With a silent auction of work donated by the registered artists starting at 7.30pm. The Gala evening will be a ticketed event. Participating artists (+1) must book a ticket through The Ashdown Forest Foundation's website but do not pay for their tickets. General public and invited guests will be asked to pay £5 for their tickets which include a glass of wine. All proceeds will go to support the work of the Ashdown Forest Conservators.

Artists and makers are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, you should have a studio or exhibition space near the Ashdown Forest. If you don’t currently have a space in the area, you can still apply as an Artist/Maker Looking for a Space. To apply, please click the Registration button on the Home Page.

A: The Ashdown Forest Open Studios event is open to the public during exhibition dates, and you can visit artists' studios without booking, using the event map and schedule on the official website. The gala event will be ticketed with tickets available by application closer to time. Information about this will be posted on this website.
