Jane Tyler
Ceramics Sculpture and Homeware
Jane Tyler is an artist working from her studio near Wadhurst, E. Sussex.
Her practice encompasses ceramics, painting and collage informed by having lived, studied, worked and started a family in countries such as Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia and The Philippines. Myth, folklore, archaeology and the everyday are all themes that she draws on.
Jane graduated from University of the Arts London in Practice & Theory: Art & Design where she developed an approach grounded in both material exploration and critical enquiry. She first experimented with ceramics in Kobe, Japan in the 1980s and returned to the medium in 2015.
Working in both stoneware and earthenware Jane enjoys the freedom of handbuilding, creating unusual vessels and sculptural forms as well as making unique tableware. She will often use clay as a 3D canvas for more detailed painting and likes to imbue her work with a sense of joy and humour.
