Wes Groves

Ceramic Artist

I have been developing my Raku ceramic creations over the past few years. These range from thrown pots to different types of birds, and I have been working on Raku Puffins and Owls, as well as a range of Penguins. I employ various alternative Raku techniques and continually experiment to explore the different effects I can achieve.

I love the Great Pottery Throw Down and Raku week. So, imagine after making something, I go out into my garden, place it in my oil drum kiln, fire it to 1000 C, opening the kiln whilst it’s still very hot, lift the item out using very thick gloves and long handle tongs and put it into a dustbin filled with sawdust and producing lots of dancing flames or plunging into a thin bread mix liquid with the smells of baking bread then plunge into water to stop it cooking. It’s always Fun!
